Meet the Team: What Inspires Our Creativity

Meet the Team: What Inspires Our Creativity

Untitled Document

We're passionate about helping you in your most creative endeavors, and our enthusiasm truly comes from within. At Plaid headquarters, we have crafters as passionate as you are about handcrafting something special.

Meet five of our team members as they showcase some of their recent creations and talk about what inspires them to create:

As the marketing services coordinator, Shauna Lallatin spearheads public relations efforts and special events for Plaid. With 11 years of living the Plaid life, she is also the 'glue' that holds the communications department together! Growing up surrounded by crafters, she can't remember a time when she didn't have her hands occupied with some sort of project.

About my project: This old suitcase had holes in it and was a mess, but I love the shape and I wanted to make it useful again. I used Martha Stewart Crafts® Decoupage Multi-Surface Finish to cover the body, then added gold foil to the handle and edges to give it a nice finish.  The inside is covered with gold printed tissue paper. Now it's a beautiful storage container.

What inspires me to craft? I always want to have something to do with my hands.  I love having something I made myself or remade to fit my style.

Anna Teal works with the licensed products brand team as a marketing communications manager and is a pro at all things Martha Stewart Crafts®! She's been getting crafty for the past six years and has expanded her craft skills since joining Plaid two years ago.

About my project: My husband and I love to leave each other notes around the house. We’ve always liked the look of chalkboard inspired art, so I created this “Love Note” Chalkboard Frame with Martha Stewart Crafts® Chalkboard Paint, Phrases Silkscreens, and the amazing new Erasable Liquid Chalk so we can do just that!

What inspires me to craft? I find a lot of my inspiration on Pinterest, but I’m a bit obsessed right now with restoring furniture and upcycling.  This piece was an outdated picture frame that sat in my garage for two years and now it’s a usable, fun piece that my husband and I can enjoy.

Michelle Pope is essential to the sales team as their key account coordinator and crunches numbers like no other. Though she didn't discover crafting until joining Plaid three years ago, she loves experimenting with new ways of creating!

About the project: My dad recently passed away, so I chose a project that would pay tribute to him and also to my family. The photos I selected capture some of my favorite memories that we all shared together. The “keep looking up” quote is a phrase he said that has stuck with us; a reminder to look up, live in the moment, and really give your attention to those around you. I did this project with two of my siblings – it was great “craft therapy” for us!

What inspires me to craft? I'm inspired by practical needs around the house. Before I started this project, my sister mentioned that we needed pictures for our fireplace mantle – and we already have a ton of framed pictures, so I decided to do something different. That eventually led me to Pinterest where I found the idea of photo canvases, and I created mine with Mod Podge Photo Transfer

Connie Lanham is the talent behind Plaid's beloved Mod Podge brand and stencil lines. As a brand manager with 15 years at Plaid, she's been putting her imagination to work crafting since she was a toddler!

About my project: I used Mod Podge Matte on this cute nine drawer wood organizer to help stash some of my office supplies.

What inspires me to craft? Shapes and colors inspire me to create my projects. When I see a shape I like, I then think of what colors would look great on it, and it all comes together! I also like my creations to be functional.

Kyra Balentine's been with Plaid for just under a year, but she's been getting crafty with it since high school! As the marketing communications manager for paint, stencils and surfaces, her passion for art helps to motivate her every day.

About my project:  This curio cabinet that was in my childhood home was given to me by my parents when my husband and I bought our first house.  It's over 20 years old, but I haven't been able to part with it. Finally, after two moves across the country and eight years in my various garages, I decided it was time for a makeover using FolkArt Home Decor Chalk! I love the result, and it's now in our guest bedroom.

What inspires me to craft? Though I have always loved being creative, I really got back into crafting and painting once my son Ben Michael was born three years ago - he's my inspiration every day!
