Society of Decorative Painters
Lauren Schiller
Decorative Painting
With
more than 27,000 members worldwide, the Society of Decorative
Painters (SDP) boasts an ever-growing family of painters,
with a wide variety of interests. The Society's new website
is a wonderful resource for anyone interested in decorative
painting. Visitors can learn tips to improve their painting
techniques, interact with other painters on the bulletin board,
and even become a member of SDP. Our 2007 Conference will be held May 28 - June 2 in Anaheim, California.
Organized in 1972 as the National Society of Tole and Decorative
Painters, SDP aimed to stimulate worldwide interest in and
appreciation for decorative painting; recognize the diversity
of the art form; and serve as a resource center for all things
decorative painting. Since then the Society has grown to include
more than 300 local chapters worldwide, with chapters in such
countries as Australia, Japan, Korea and Argentina.
Local chapters are the heart of the organization and allow
painters to become involved in the art form right in their
own community. Through local chapters, members participate
in classes and seminars, form new friendships, donate their
time and skills to community service projects, and share their
passion for painting with others.
The Society has recently launched a new look for their website,
www.decorativepainters.com,
and it's jam-packed with tons of information for decorative
painters of all kinds, such as:
Bulletin Board: Now decorative painters worldwide can
interact virtually. Choose from several discussion groups
designed for accomplished painters, beginners, teachers
and others!
